Dear friends,

Let us introduce ourselves. We are fifteen years old.

I'm Clémence K. I haven't got any brothers and sisters. But I think there are many advantages to be an only child. This coming year, I plan to pass a scientific degree. I really like taking varied photos of landscapes and friends. I also enjoy playing badminton with my friends. But what I like most is walking in high mountains and discovering new places. I feel like travelling all around the world since I love speaking languages and communicating with people that's why I intend to learn another foreign language as Italian or Russian. I would like to go to Australia and spend one or two years there. I live in Scherwiller, a peaceful village situated in the Alsatian vineyard.

My name is Claire M. I have lived in Kientzville for more than 14 years. Kientzville is a very small village, in fact there are less than 300 inhabitants, which is surrounded with a forest. I've got a warm hearted family which is composed of one brother and my parents. I'm fond of athletics that's why I run 4 times a week. I'm crazy about free ride and freestyle skiing. I'm keen on flying a kite or a boomerang and I often practise skateboarding. I nearly forgot that I sometimes go gliding with my father. I'd like to travel all around the world indeed I've already been in the USA, in London… To finish, my favourite subjects are PE, physics and maths. And I intend to succeed a scientific degree.

My name is Olivier C. I live in Sélestat, a town in the middle of Alsace, populated with about 17.000 inhabitants. I live with my parents and my brother who is 13 years old. In school, I like all subjects, but I sometimes have some preferences, generally in maths, for example. I also like physical education. These coming years, I plan to pass a scientific degree. I often surf on the Internet, play video games, watch television. I also read before going to sleep. Every day I go out to walk or bike in the town or around, because it is almost impossible for me to stay at home during a whole day. Some projects I could have were for example visiting foreign countries, like U.S.A., or Japan. The further country I have already visited during my life is Hungary, Budapest to be more precise, but I would like visiting further during the coming years.

Our high school is called the "Lycée Koeberlé" and is located in Sélestat. It consists in three main buildings namely :
- the building B which is easily recognizable thanks to its architecture ;
- the building C for the scientific subjects with some laboratories ;
- the building E for languages subjects.

Alsace is situated in Northeaster of France. It is such a beautiful region which offers wonderful landscapes between the Vosges and the Alsatian plain. Strasbourg is the main city of Alsace and there you can also find the European Parliament. It is nice to walk in the narrow streets of the "Petite France" with its wooden structure houses…

Now, we'll suggest you some topics we can develop :
- the Christmas traditions and customs in our regions ;
- winter sports ;
- music…

Kindest regards,

Claire, Clémence and Olivier.

Now, we would like to give you some information on Alsace.
Alsace is one of 26 French regions, located on the eastern border of France, on the west of the Upper Rhine, front to Germany and Switzerland. Alsace was part of the Holy Roman Empire and is still inhabited by people speaking a dialect of Upper German. In the course of the 17th century, Alsace was gradually put under French sovereignty and made one of the provinces of France. Its capital and largest city is Strasbourg. Alsace's population increased to 1,734,145 in 1999. Alsace has an area of 8283 km2 , making it the smallest region of metropolitan France. It is almost four times longer than it is wide, corresponding to a plain between the Rhine in the east and the Vosges mountains in the west.
It includes the departments of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. It borders Germany on the north and the east, Switzerland .
Alsace has a semi-continental climate with cold and dry winters and hot summers. There is little precipitation because the Vosges protect it from the west. The city of Colmar has a sunny microclimate; it is the second driest city in France, with an annual precipitation of just 550 mm, making it ideal for vin d'Alsace (Alsatian wine).

Kind regards,

Sébastien, Raphaël and Kaya.

Monday 20th November 2006.

Dear friends,

We are three French students at Koeberlé Highschool and we are going to present ourselves.

I'm Lucas, I am 14 years old and I live in Châtenois which is a little village next to Sélestat. I have one brother who is called Xavier and who studies medicine in Strasbourg. My parents are both doctors. My favourite subjects are PE (since I am fond of sport) and biology. I play handball in a club in Sélestat . I also enjoy playing basket-ball with my friends. I like listening to music in particular rock'n roll. I don't exactly know what I'd like to do later but maybe something in business.

My name is Paul K., I live in Sélestat, in Alsace. I am 15 years old and I study in the same school and class as Lucas. I've got one brother whose name is Pierre, he is 19 and studies management in Strasbourg which is the city where he lives. I like history, geography and math, however I need to improve my marks in order to be able to do the studies I have in mind. I'm fond of ssport, especially football and I am a great supporter of the French team. I love skiing and I'm keen on music. Indeed I play the drums and the guitar.

Hi, I am Maïté! I live in Sélestat too and I am 15 years old. I have two younger sisters. Sometimes they don't deserve to be my sisters! I do kayaking with friends in a club. I love outdoor activities, and being with my friends is what I like best. I belong to a humanitarian association because it's important for me to help people who are destitute. In the future, I hope I hope to be able to do something in this field.

Sélestat is a city situated in the centre of Alsace, not too small, not too big, just perfect. It's a cosmopolitan city since there are French, Portuguese, Italian and Turkish people living all together. There are a lot of cultural buildings. Indeed there is a Modern Art Museum, a big library which is quite modern and the Humanist Library which is renowned all over the world for its ancient books in latin.
Our high school Lycée Dr Koeberlé was named after a famous surgeon Dr Koeberlé. It is composed of three buildings which are quite old-looking. Most of the rooms and the furniture have seen better times but the canteen is one of the best in our region!

Alsace is a region in the north-east of France. This region has a lot of character since it was annexed by the Germans in 1870 and it became French after the first World War. Alsace is not a region like the others because it has a strong personality and particular traditions, very different from the rest of  France! It is one of the smallest region in France but also one of the richest.

In our next mail, we would like to talk about Christmas traditions in our respective countries. Later, we could also talk about wine growing and wine which is quite reputed in Alsace and skiing which is a traditiona lactivity in our mountains, the Vosges.

We are looking forward to receiving your mail,

Paul, Lucas and  Maïté.
